Japan must accelerate its defense strategy.

Japan must accelerate its defense strategy.

1.The U.S., the world's largest military spender, increased its spending by 4.4% to $778 billion (about ¥90 trillion). It accounts for about 40% of the world's military spending. In addition to research and development, modernization of nuclear weapons and large-scale procurement of weapons are the main reasons for this increase, and the former Trump administration's stance of strengthening the U.S. military in confrontation with China and Russia has become evident.

2. China, the world's second largest military spender, increased its military spending by 1.9% to 252 billion dollars (about 30 trillion yen). India, Russia, and the U.K. follow in third place. Japan is in ninth place with 5.3 trillion yen.

3.Judging from the U.S.' abject defeat in Afghanistan and its life-threatening withdrawal, we cannot expect the U.S. military to take over Japan's defense.

4.Japan should raise its defense spending to at least 10 trillion yen and concentrate on the development of armaments and strategic research on armaments for self-defense. This is not the time to be happily buying second-hand US military equipment at ridiculously high prices.

5.Raising the budget is easy. All we have to do is to cut only 10 trillion yen from the 60 trillion yen that we are giving to our grandparents and replace it.
