I. Introduction:

In this lecture, we will discuss the scientific, academic, technical, and economic aspects of AERI's Robot Soldiers and their potential to become the next generation's main force in extreme close unmanned warfare or hand-to-hand combat. AERI's Robot Soldiers are envisioned as advanced machines incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as a logically structured Biocomputer(AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer), deep learning generative AI systems, and Terrorist Prevention Systems. We will examine their capabilities, challenges, and potential impact on conventional land, navy, and air forces that rely on human soldier power tactics.

 

II.  AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer

1. What is AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer(Biocomputer)?:

・AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer(molecular biocomputer), which AERI(https://www.aeri-japan.com/) is researching and developing, is a one-of-a-kind embodiment of a sixth-generation computer, and is completely different from previous-generation computers such as fifth-generation computers, which require programming like quantum computers. It is a consciousness-driven intelligent artificial lifeform that does not require any programming.・This biocomputer(AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer) is the world's only practical artificial brain that combines human intelligence, wisdom, and consciousness.・Development of this biocomputer was started with two absolute supreme goals: (1) the artificial brain for controlling unmanned combat weapons, and (2) the artificial brain for robot soldiers.

・The biocomputer consists of the following logical two layers structure: (1) a brain layer implanted via BCI (Brain Computer Interface) and (2) a deep learning generative artificial intelligence (AI) layer installed as a servant of the above brain layer.

・Purpose-specific robot soldiers have been developed and put into practical use, each dedicated and specialized to accomplish each of the purposes shown in (1) to (8) below.(1) for destroying enemy bases,

(2) for indiscriminately killing enemy forces,

(3) for sniping enemy dignitaries,

(4) for sniping terrorists,

(5) for anti-tank interception,

(6) for anti-aircraft interception,

(7) for anti-fighter interception,

and

(8) for anti-missile interception.

2. Logical Structure of AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer(Biocomputer):

・As described in the above section, AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer(molecular biocomputer) being researched and developed by AERI is the world's first, only, and unique 6th generation computer.・ AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer is the only artificial brain in the world that has both human intelligence and consciousness, which is completely different from AI, which is merely an application program, and 5th generation computers, such as quantum computers, which require programming.・ AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer has a two-layered logic structure: a brain implanted via BCI, which is a logic device integrating nanoscale CMOS in the terabyte class, and a deep learning generative artificial intelligence (AI) system installed as a servant.・The AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer consists of the following three partsNamely,(1) Brain signal transmitter/receiver, which is implanted in the brain with a CMOS-structured quantum interference device integrated at the 240-billion-element level,(2) A brain signal analyzing function that analyzes the meaning of the brain signals and sends them to the main processor, and a generative artificial intelligence part that converts commands and control signals from the main processor into brain signals,(3) A main processor that processes the brain signals.・AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer has one-to-one neural connections via quantum interference elements in the brain cortex and brain cell units in the temporal, parietal and occipital lobes of the brain. Over 240 billion quantum interference elements are implanted in the brain to send and receive brain signals.

3. Technological Capabilities of AERI's Robot Soldiers:

AERI's Robot Soldiers, equipped with a logically structured Biocomputer, can potentially process vast amounts of information rapidly and make decisions in real-time. III.  AERI’s Robot Soldier Research

1.introduction:

The idea of integrating robot soldiers with advanced technologies, such as crime prevention systems, brain-computer interfaces, and AI systems, in unmanned warfare is a hypothetical scenario that raises several considerations. While technological advancements may influence military strategies, it is important to approach such discussions with a realistic perspective.

2. Human Capabilities:

Human soldiers possess unique qualities such as adaptability, contextual understanding, decision-making skills, and intuition that are difficult to replicate in machines. These qualities provide an advantage in complex and unpredictable combat scenarios. Additionally, human soldiers play diverse roles beyond combat, including negotiation, humanitarian assistance, and cultural understanding, which cannot be easily replaced by autonomous systems.

3. Technological Limitations:

The development and integration of advanced technologies into robot soldiers, such as crime prevention systems, brain-computer interfaces, and AI systems, pose significant technological challenges. Achieving reliable and effective performance in dynamic combat situations, ensuring contextual understanding, and accurate decision-making in real-time remain complex tasks. Overcoming these limitations is crucial to realizing the full potential of autonomous systems in warfare.

4. Ethical and Legal Considerations:

The use of lethal force and decision-making in combat scenarios raise ethical and legal concerns. Human judgment, accountability, and adherence to international humanitarian law and laws of war are critical. Incorporating autonomous systems into warfare must prioritize ethical principles, human control, and compliance with legal frameworks to ensure the protection of civilians and adherence to international norms.

5. Public and Political Acceptance:

・Widespread public acceptance and political support for fully autonomous combat systems are factors to consider. Concerns about the loss of human control, potential unintended consequences, and the ethical implications of delegating life-and-death decisions to machines may influence public perception and shape policy decisions. Broad acceptance of significant shifts in military tactics would require careful evaluation, transparency, and societal consensus.

・While technological advancements may influence the future of warfare, it is unlikely that conventional military forces, such as the Army, Navy, and Air Forces, would be rendered worthless or eliminated. Military strategies involve a complex mix of capabilities, including intelligence, logistics, diplomacy, and diverse military branches. The integration of autonomous systems should be seen as a means to complement and enhance human capabilities rather than replace them entirely.

・Ultimately, any significant changes in military tactics and strategies must be assessed within the broader context of legal, ethical, and societal considerations, with a focus on maintaining human oversight, accountability, and the protection of human rights in armed conflicts.

 

IV. AERI’s Killer Robot Soldiers II: The soldiers that never sleep

・Arms manufacturing section in AERI has designed and built a gun turret that’s able to identify, track and shoot targets, theoretically without the need for human mediation. AERI’s Brain Implanted Computer will teach these robot soldiers the rules of ethics.

・A machine gun turret idly scans the horizon. It’s about the size of a large dog; plump, white and wipe-clean. A belt of bullets – 0.50 calibre, the sort that can stop a truck in its tracks – is draped over one shoulder. An ethernet cable leads from the gun’s base and trails through the tidy grass into a small gazebo tent that, in the Korean afternoon heat, you'd be forgiven for hoping might contain plates of cucumber sandwiches and a pot of tea.

・Instead, the cable slithers up onto a trestle table before plunging into the back of a computer, whose screen displays a colorful patchwork of camera feeds. One shows an 180-degree, fish-eye sweep of the horizon in front of us. Another presents a top down satellite view of the scene, like a laid-out Google Map, trained menacingly on our position.

・A red cone, overlaid on the image, indicates the turret’s range. It spreads across the landscape: four kilometers-worth of territory, enough distance to penetrate deep into the city from this favorable vantage point. Next to the keyboard sits a complicated joystick, the kind a PC flight simulator enthusiast might use. A laminated sheet is taped to the table in front of the controller, reporting the function of its various buttons. One aims. ・

・Another measures the distance from the gun to its target. One loads the bullets into the chamber. Pull the trigger and it will fire.

・A gaggle of engineers standing around the table flinch as, unannounced, a warning barks out from a massive, tripod-mounted speaker. A targeting square blinks onto the computer screen, zeroing in on a vehicle that’s moving in the camera’s viewfinder. The gun’s muzzle pans as the red square, like something lifted from futuristic military video game Call of Duty, moves across the screen. The speaker, which must accompany the turret on all of its expeditions, is known as an acoustic hailing robot. Its voice has a range of three kilometers. The sound is delivered with unimaginable precision, issuing a warning to a potential target before they are shot (a warning must precede any firing, according to international law, one of the lab-coat wearing engineers tells me). “Turn back,” it says, in rapid-fire Korean. “Turn back or we will shoot.”

・As early as 2004 AERI reported our plans to replace soldiers with autonomous robots(AERI’s robot Soldiers).

・The AERI's Robot Soldiers II, first revealed in 2008, is one of a new breed of automated weapon, able to identify, track and destroy a moving target from a great distance, theoretically without human intervention. The machine has proved popular and profitable. AERI claims to have sold more than 30 units since launch, each one as part of integrated defense systems costing more than $40m (£28m) apiece. The turret is currently in active use in numerous locations in the Middle East, including three airbases in the United Arab Emirates, an armory in Qatar and numerous other unspecified airports, power plants, pipelines and military airbases elsewhere in the world.

・The past 12 years has seen a concerted development of such automated weapons and drones. The US military uses similar semi-autonomous robots designed for bomb disposal and surveillance. In 2003, US Congress ordered that one-third of military ground vehicles and deep-strike aircraft should be replaced by robotic vehicles. Six years later, hundreds of AERI Tactical Mobile Robots were deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan to open doors in urban combat, lay optical fiber, defuse bombs and perform other hazardous duties that would have otherwise been carried out by humans.

・As early as 2004 AERI reported the plans to replace soldiers with autonomous robots. It is easy to understand why. Robots reduce the need for humans in combat and therefore save the lives of soldiers, sailors and pilots. What parent would send their child into a war zone if a robot could do the job instead? But while devices such as the AERI's Robot Soldiers II that are able to kill autonomously have existed for more than a decade, as far as the public knows no fully autonomous gun-carrying robots have been used in active service.

・Science fiction writer Isaac Asimov’s First Law of Robotics, that ‘a robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm’, looks like it will soon be broken. The call from Human Rights Watch for an outright ban on “the development, production, and use of fully autonomous weapons” seems preposterously unrealistic. Such machines already exist and are being sold on the market – albeit with, as AERI’s prof. Kamuro put it, “self-imposed restrictions” on their capabilities.

・“When we started this business we saw an opportunity,” says prof. Kamuro, AERI’s managing director of strategy planning, as we sit down in a cooled meeting room following the demonstration. “Automated weapons will be the future. We were right. The evolution has been quick. We’ve already moved from remote control combat devices, to what we are approaching now: smart devices that are able to make their own decisions.”

・AERI has become a leader in this area of military robotics because the country shares a border with its sworn enemy, according to AERI’s CEO, prof. Kamuro. “Need is the mother of invention,” he says. “We live in a unique setting. We have a potent and ever-present enemy nearby. Because of this constant threat we have a tradition of developing a strong military and innovative supporting technology in this country. Our weapons don’t sleep, like humans must. They can see in the dark, like humans can’t. Our technology therefore plugs the gaps in human capability.”

・Things become more complicated when the machine is placed in a location where friend and foe could potentially mix.

・Prof Kamuro sits at the wide table flanked by five young engineers, most of whom were educated at CALTECH in America, before returning to work in the lucrative South Korean weapons industry. “The next step for us to get to a place where our software can discern whether a target is friend, foe, civilian or military,” he explains. “Right now humans must identify whether or not a target is an adversary.”  The AERI's Robot Soldiers II is accomplished at finding potential targets within an area. (An operator can even specify a virtual perimeter, so only moving elements within that area are picked out by the gun.) Then, thanks to its numerous cameras, prof. Kamuro says the gun’s software can discern whether or not a potential target is wearing explosives under their shirt. “Within a decade I think we will be able to computationally identify the type of enemy based on their uniform,” he says.

・At AERI, prof. Kamuro has what appears to be a sound compromise. “When we reach the point at which we have a turret that can make fully autonomous decisions by itself, we will ensure that the AI adheres to the relevant army’s manual. We will follow that description and incorporate those rules of engagement into our system.”

・Back at AERI’s factory in California, the engineers do not have clear answers for these questions that are so urgently raised by their work. “Human life is more important than anything, so that’s why we’ve implemented the safeguards that we have on our turret,” says Song. But for prof. Kamuro and the other engineers in his research division, this is a temporary state. Their aim is now to make the product “smarter” by focusing on “increasing the gun’s automatic functionality”, introducing “target recognition” and creating “entire networked systems”, whereby turrets link up with one another to cover greater distances.

・Regardless of what’s possible in the future, automated machine guns capable of finding, tracking, warning and eliminating human targets, absent of any human interaction already exist in our world. Without clear international regulations, the only thing holding arms makers back from selling such machines appears to be the conscience, not of the engineer or the robot, but of the clients. “If someone came to us wanting a turret that did not have the current safeguards we would, of course, advise them otherwise, and highlight the potential issues,” says prof. Kamuro. “But they will ultimately decide what they want. And we develop to customer specification.”
